Goodbye 2010, Hello 2011

Where did the year go? With teaching SPINNING three (sometimes four) times a week, dance, my sister's graduation from pharmacy school, two new babies in my extended family, and my wacky field schedule, 2011 was a blur.

My 2010 resolutions were:
1. Roll with it.
This resolution morphed into "Stay on My Side of the Street," meaning control myself and my actions and do not worry about what others are doing (or not doing). Making an effort to do this helps me not get quite as upset with those around me. Of course, this personality modification is an ongoing process.

2. Don’t over-train.
I stayed healthy and happy with my training schedule in 2010. I did over-extend myself a bit in the spring by taking three different dance classes, but have since cut back to two. I suffered no injuries in 2010 and managed to only get sick twice (once in February with a stomach bug and once in December with a cold). For 2011, Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:30 am SPINNING classes are still on and I am dancing ballet and modern, running once a week, and working with a personal trainer to stay toned. Cross-training is the key.

3. Publish.
This was a professional goal and didn't happen, although I did get two steps closer - one manuscript is in press and only lacks my making the referees' suggested changes and the other is 95% complete as of today. They should both be wrapped by by March.

And for 2011, my resolutions are:
1. Park my car in a space farther from the front door, making a point to park somewhere past the first set of parking lot dividers. Except if it is pouring rain.

2. Take one *interesting photo every day for the entire year. This is a twist on the 365 Self Portrait Project, getting me back to using my camera on a daily basis.

3. Get on the yoga mat at least once a week. Breathe. Focus. Relax.

4. Bring no more plastic bags into the house. Use reusable bags at every store, not just the grocery, and go greener this year. And, if plastic does come in, make sure it gets recycled.

Happy New Year!
